Modern Day Gaming

“Chol, leh kai bol boring”. Ah! How I miss those days .Long gone are now, those days, with all the restless waits to return from school and then rush to the road, and there it was the hustle and bustle of the evening race. Today the scenario is very much different, unlike until a little time back when children discussed on their next strategy towards getting a batsman of the opponent team out, they discuss how effective is the “sange and yasha” combination with a particular hero in “Dota”, a popular multiplayer PC game. The ball bearing races have been now replaced by multiplayer game tournaments of PC games such as Counter strike, a popular FPS (First Player Shooting) game, conducted by various Game Parlours across Shillong.

Well the advent of the computer gaming is not an old tradition is a pretty new form of entertainment which is getting so very popular amongst the youth. Computer gaming has both positive effects as well as negative effects and is applicable to different people in different ways. For Example: It has made certain people very unsocial on the other hand many people have claimed that gaming has inculcated self-confidence in them. According to many gamers, gaming is initially a passion which in time becomes obsession and ultimately turns out to be addiction.

A visit to one of these Game Parlours left me a little amazed to have found such type of gaming addicts, a bunch of school boys, having bunked school and enjoying multiplayer gaming, well we might see that gaming is bad. It is very wrong to jump to conclusions so early as in this case.

To think on the other way round for a number of children PC gaming has provided such a confined platform that these children don’t have time for other activities pertaining to substance. Many gamers do also think that Gaming has helped them refrain from any kind of substance abuse which would have much more drastic physical effects in time. Modern Day Gaming practices, for many gamers can even last for late hours of the night eliminating the age old proverb “Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy wealthy and wise”.

Modern Day Gaming practices, good or bad? It is still under much of doubt and speculation. It is perhaps only time which will be able to tell us “the good and the ill effects of it”.
